Cyber security is the application of technology, procedures, policies, and controls to protect systems, networks, programs, devices, and data against cyber-attacks.

To put it another way, cybersecurity is more than merely employing cutting-edge technology. How that piece of technology (hardware and software) is utilized, maintained, and secured from unauthorized access is what cyber security is all about.
